Coaching Does For the Rest of Your Life

What Personal Training Does for Your Body!

How effective is Coaching?

Coaching is one of the most cost effective and focussed ways of improving performance.

What is Coaching?

It consists of informal but purposeful conversations which help clients develop insight to set and achieve goals.  Coaching addresses both strengths and weaknesses and takes into account personal preferences and circumstances.

What do Coaches do?

Coaches use a number of different techniques (such as active listening, asking questions, paraphrasing thoughts and ideas, reflecting feelings and meaning, challenging beliefs), to help clients identify and focus on what is important to them and what is working/not working for them at this time.   Coaches will ask a number of questions and may at time give suggestions but ultimately, coaching is non-directive meaning that clients will come to identify their own answers and make decisions as a result of the coaching process.  Coaches serve as sounding boards, they reflect your ideas, thoughts, and feelings back to you.  They question you about the link between your behaviours and your goals and ultimately help you to figure out where you want to go and the best way for you to get there.  Coaches also act as cheerleaders reminding you of your goals, skills and abilities, keeping you motivated and celebrating your successes.

What makes the Coaching conversation uniquely purposeful?

  • There is a goal/outcome to the conversation

  • There is a focus on questions to get you thinking at a deeper level

  • There is a strong emphasis on clarification for the purpose of helping clients gain insight

  • There is an emphasis on recognizing road blocks and finding ways to overcome these

  • There is much importance placed on action - clients are encouraged to explore options, research and reflect, explore the situation and goals within the larger context and then make choices and follow through with action.

Why should I consider getting a coach?

Coaching helps clients

  • Establish and take action toward achieving goals

  • Become more self-reliant

  • Gain more job and life satisfaction

  • Contribute more effectively to their teams and organizations

  • Take greater responsiblity and accountability for actions and commitments

  • Work more easily and productively with others

  • Communicate more effectively

  • Take ownership for change

Is this type of Coaching based on the same concepts as sports Coaching?

Yes!  Life, business, and executive coaching are all based on the idea that having a coach to help you achieve a goal significantly contributes to success.  Successful athletes understand the power of coaching.

What is the difference between Life Coaching, Career Coaching, Business Coaching, and Executive Coaching?

The approach to coaching is the same regardless of the type of coaching; and the strategies used by the coaches are very much the same.  What differs primarily are the focus, the goals, and outcomes.  Life coaching helps individuals gain insight about all areas of their life.  It strives to help people find balance and empowers them to make the choices that will make them happy.  Career coaching helps individuals discover the skills that they enjoy using and the discover and select the career paths that make use of these skills.  Career coaching also helps individuals refine their skills and get that dream job.  Business coaching helps entreprenneurs set business goals and develop and implement plans to achieve these goals.  Executive coaching helps managers and leaders to gain insight about  how those around them are responding to their leadership style and making adjustments in their style to achieve the desired outcomes.
